During the campaigning for the bypoll elections in the constituencies of Aravakurichi and Tirupparakundram on Tuesday and Wednesday , a slipper attack was attempted on the new actor-turned –politician Kamal Hassan founder of the new party MNM “Makkal Needhi Maiam”.

A slipper attack was attempted when Hassan reached the venue for the campaigning , though a slippers attack took place the actor wasn’t injured and the all the slippers fell on the ground. The police took one such attacker into custody.
The reason behind the slipper attack was when Kamal Hassan said “independent India’s first terrorist was a Hindu referring to Nathuram Godse, assassin of Mahatma Gandhi”.
This statement ignited the BJP workers and claimed that Kamal Hassan’s tongue to be cut, because by referring to Godse, the Hindu community was generalised as terrorists.
A police complaint was filed against the New politician under the Indian Penal code for “promoting enmity against different groups and outraging religious feelings”. As his speech was termed as projected with anti-hindu ideology.
Soon after the complaint against Kamal Hassan was filed. Kamal Hassan applied for an anticipatory bail from the madras High court, stating that he had never spoken anything against religion and never meant target Hindus as terrorists.
He even specified that the speech did not go out of context and respects various religions.he wanted to mention about the co-existence of different communities and the term “Extremism” was being misunderstood.
On the other hand ,his party members claim that his speech went out of the context.
Things heat up when the BJP minister Rajenthra bhalaji ,says “extremism has no religion, neither Hindu nor Muslim nor Christian. Petitions to the Election commission have been lodged against the campaigning of the debut party MNM for violating the code of conduct by BJP ministers including Sadhvi pragya,by saying Nathuram Godse was a true patriot.
