Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Flees to India Amid Political Turmoil
Indian security forces swiftly responded to the unfolding political crisis in Bangladesh as former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the violence-hit nation following her resignation on Monday. Hasina arrived in India for safety aboard an Air Force jet and is expected to remain in the country until she is granted political asylum in a third country, according to sources.
Safe Arrival in India
The Indian Air Force (IAF) radars closely monitored the airspace over Bangladesh and detected a low-flying aircraft around 3:00 PM heading toward India. By 6:30 PM, Bangladesh Air Force’s C-130 transport aircraft AJAX1413, carrying Hasina and her sister, safely landed at Ghaziabad’s Hindon Air Base.
Security Measures in Place
In a significant show of support, two Rafale fighter jets from the 101 squadron at Hashimara air base in West Bengal were deployed over Bihar and Jharkhand to ensure the safety of Hasina’s aircraft. IAF and Army chiefs, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari and General Upendra Dwivedi, closely monitored the situation, ensuring Hasina’s secure arrival.
High-Level Security Meeting
A top-level meeting involving senior security officials, including intel agency chiefs, General Dwivedi, and Integrated Defence Staff Chief Lt. General Johnson Philip Mathew, was convened to assess the situation and coordinate efforts.
Upon Hasina’s arrival at Hindon Air Base, she was greeted by National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. The two engaged in an hour-long discussion about the current situation in Bangladesh and her future plans.
Briefing the Indian Government
Following the discussion, NSA Doval departed the airbase to brief the Cabinet Committee on a security meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister and other key officials were kept informed about the developments throughout the day, highlighting the importance of the situation and the steps taken to ensure Hasina’s safety.
Sheikh Hasina’s arrival in India underscores the region’s ongoing political tensions and the crucial role of Indian security agencies in maintaining stability and safety during times of crisis. The developments continue to unfold as discussions about Hasina’s political asylum and future actions progress.
