PM Modi Vows Stronger Actions Against Crimes Against Women
In a powerful statement addressing growing concerns over crimes against women, PM Modi …..Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday assured that perpetrators of such offences “will not be spared.” Speaking at the Lakhpati Didi event in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, PM Modi responded to the recent nationwide outrage over incidents such as the Kolkata doctor’s rape and murder, the Badlapur school sexual abuse case, and the Assam gang rape.
Strengthening Legal Frameworks to Protect Women
Highlighting the government’s commitment to protecting women, PM Modi stated, “We are strengthening and making stricter laws for criminals who commit sins against women.” He detailed the government’s efforts to bolster legal frameworks and enforcement mechanisms, including amendments to existing laws and the introduction of new systems to make justice more accessible for victims.
The Prime Minister emphasized the changes brought by the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), a comprehensive legal reform aimed at addressing loopholes in the justice system. “Earlier, there were complaints that FIRs were not filed. We brought the BNS and made a lot of amendments,” he noted. “If a woman does not want to go to the police station, she can file an e-FIR. Nobody can change or tamper with an e-FIR.”
New Measures to Tackle Post-Marriage Crimes
Addressing crimes against women within marriage, PM Modi highlighted specific amendments to the BNS designed to address these issues more effectively. He reassured that the central government is working closely with state governments to combat crimes against women and ensure justice is served. “We stand firmly with state governments in tackling these crimes,” he affirmed.
Supporting Economic Empowerment of Women
During his visit to Jalgaon, PM Modi also focused on women’s economic empowerment by interacting with ‘Lakhpati Didis,’ women members of self-help groups who have achieved an annual income of Rs 1 lakh. At the event, the Prime Minister felicitated 11 lakh new Lakhpati Didis and announced the disbursement of bank loans totaling Rs 5,000 crore, benefiting 25.8 lakh members of 2.35 lakh self-help groups (SHGs).
Since the launch of the Lakhpati Didi scheme, over one crore women have joined the initiative. The government has set an ambitious target to empower 3 crore women as Lakhpati Didis, according to news agency PTI.
Focus on Women’s Empowerment and Development
Praising the efforts of the Eknath Shinde-led government in Maharashtra, PM Modi highlighted the administration’s focus on women’s empowerment and economic growth. He stated, “Mahayuti government means a government for development,” emphasizing the coalition’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth and social welfare.
