Indian 2 to Premiere on Netflix
The highly anticipated sequel to Shankar’s 1996 hit film, Indian, titled Indian 2, hit theatres last month but received a lukewarm response. Now, fans can catch the film on Netflix starting August 9, as it will be available in multiple languages. The movie will stream on the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam platforms. The announcement was made via Netflix’s official account on X (formerly known as Twitter), which posted, “Thatha varaaru, kadhara vida poraaru. (Buckle up. Indian Thatha is back to take on the system again) #Indian2 is coming to Netflix on 9 August in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada! #Indian2OnNetflix.
Theatrical Release and Reception
Indian 2 was released in theaters on July 12, but it did not meet expectations at the box office, receiving a tepid reception from both audiences and critics. This feedback prompted the filmmakers to edit the film, shortening it by 20 minutes. The revised version now runs for 2 hours and 40 minutes.
About Indian 2
The film picks up the story of Senapathy, with Kamal Haasan reprising his iconic role. Senapathy returns to India to combat corruption after a group of young activists reaches out to him through social media. These young friends aim to expose the corruption prevalent in the country and seek his assistance.
In addition to Kamal Haasan, Indian 2 features an ensemble cast including Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Bobby Simha, SJ Suryah, and Vivek. Although Kajal Aggarwal filmed scenes for the movie, director Shankar announced that her character will appear in Indian 3.
Upcoming Projects
Kamal Haasan, who recently appeared in Nag Ashwin’s Telugu film Kalki 2898 AD, is set to star in the sequel to Indian 2, titled Indian 3. The ending of Indian 2 hints at the storyline for the next installment, which will delve into the history of Senapathy’s parents. Additionally, Kamal Haasan is currently filming for Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life.
