Look Beyond IITs and NITs – Top State Entrance Examinations That You Must Know About

It is often seen nowadays that students are often involved in an often futile race to crack the IIT-JEEs. But many aspirants and parents do not realize that there is life beyond the IITs and NITs. JEE is a test of mettle and is cracked finally by only the few extremely meritorious ones or the crème de la crème so to say. What will happen to the lakhs of other aspirants who might have had the same intellect and merit but could not clear the finish line for umpteen reasons beyond their control? Well then there are the state entrance examinations for various technical courses which save the day. Today we will have a look at some of the best among them:

 

WBJEE

WBJEE held by West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board is an annual state entrance examination for admission into B.E/B.Tech/B.Pharm etc and all other Undergraduate Engineering, Pharmacy, Agriculture courses under any State University in West Bengal and other Self-Financed Institutes in the State. The Examination for the year 2018 is scheduled to be held in 22-Apr-2018. The examination pattern consists of two papers Paper – I (Mathematics) consisting of 75 Questions of 100 Marks and a Paper – II (Physics and Chemistry) consisting each of 40 Questions of 50 Marks.

The examination is held in the offline mode. Students of all the states and Union Territories are eligible to appear for the examination and a domicile certificate is required only for government participating institutes and for reserved categories.

  • The results and score card is expected to be out on June 5, 2018.

 

JCECE

Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination is held by JCECB for admission into undergraduate engineering, medical, agriculture and forestry, animal husbandry courses of different institutes in Jharkhand. The examination is open to students of Jharkhand only. The JCECE is held in the offline mode and is scheduled to be held in the month of May/June, 2018. The duration of the exam is a total of 4 hours, and consists of 3 groups PCM, PCB and PCMB and candidates should choose the relevant group depending on the courses they wish to opt for. Each section consists of 50 Questions of 1 Marks with 1/4th Negative marking provisioned.

  • The Results and counselling process is expected to be out and completed by July, 2018.

 

BCECE

The BCECE or Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination is held by the BCECB for undergraduate courses of medical, engineering and agriculture streams in Bihar State. The examination is open for candidates domiciled in Bihar. The application process for the year 2018 has begun. The application window is open from 7th March to 28th March. Admit Cards can be downloaded from 15th April onwards. The examination is scheduled to be held on the 29th and 30th April 2018. The examination is held in two stages. Passing of Stage I is necessary for appearing in the IInd Stage. The Stage I examination consists of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Agricultural Sciences. Each section consists of 50 questions of 4 marks each. There is a negative marking of 1 Mark for every wrong answer. Physics and Chemistry is compulsory.

  • Candidates should choose the relevant third section depending on the course they wish to opt for.  The Cut-off for general category candidates for the year 2017 was 50% that is 300 Marks of 600.

 

MH-LAW CET

The MHCET-Law Exam 2018-2019 Examination is a national level examination for entrance into undergraduate and integrated law courses in the state of Maharashtra. The examination is conducted by the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Maharashtra. There are different eligibility categories for the examination. At present the application process for integrated LLB courses are open till March 26th. The Entrance examination for integrated LLB course is scheduled for April 22nd & the result shall be declared on May 7th, 2018. The examination consists of 150 Questions of 1 mark each with no negative marking for both the courses.

  • The only difference being that there are 5 sections in 5 Year Integrated LLB course and 4 sections in the 3 Year LLB course respectively.

 

TNEA

The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions are held by Anna University of Chennai for admission into undergraduate level engineering courses into various colleges of the state. The candidates should note that this is not a written examination as it has been scrapped and seats are allocated according to Class 12 PCM Marks of the interested candidates scaled to 200.

Not only candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu region are eligible to apply but also children of Central Government Employees, provided their parents or guardians (only if both parents are not alive) have been serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the last five years and children of employees in the Public Sector or Government recognised institutions working in their organisations for the past five years are also eligible to apply, irrespective of their domicile.

TNEA Exam 2018-2019 will be conducted in the month of June.
