Recently, Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed Pele in the list of leading international goal-scorers. The Portuguese forward scored three goals against the Faroe Islands, thus taking his tally to 78 goals. He scored a hat-trick in the World Cup qualifiers against the Faroe Islands.

The Brazilian legend, Pele, scored a total of 77 goals in his decorated international career. Pele congratulated Cristiano Ronaldo as a result of the feat he achieved. With this hat-trick against The Faroe Islands, The modern day legend is now standing at #5 in the list of all time international goal-scorers, which is a massive achievement.
The 32-year old is tumbling records with each passing day. He has already won four Ballon d’Or’s and is also the leading goal-scorer for his club. His career is already a decorated one.
With this feat, he now enters the elite five of FIFA international goals. The four players which are above him include Ali Daei (109), Ferenc Puskas (84), Kunishige Kamamoto (80) and Godfrey Chitalu (79). The kind of form he is in, he is likely to take up the third place soon.

Ronaldo, however, scored 78 goals in 144 appearances he made for Portugal. Whereas, Pele took only 92 games to score 77 goals.
