Rafael Nadal is showing to the world why he is the favourite to win the US Open crown. The Spanish veteran has qualified to his seventh Quarter finals at the US Open. He defeated Alexandr Dolgopolov in the round of 16 by 6-2, 6-4, 6-1. As a result of this clean sweep, Rafael Nadal has advanced to the quarter-finals.
With this victory, Rafael Nadal seems to be chasing his third US Open crown.
And now, he is going to meet the #NextGenATP star, Andrey Rublev. Also, he will aim to reach the semi-finals where he could possibly meet Roger Ferderer for the first time. With the victory over Alexandr Dolgopolov, the Spanish Veteran has now won 50 games at the Flushing Meadows. It also includes two of his Grand Slam Titles (2010 and 2013).
Post-match, he said:
“I think I played a solid match, not many mistakes. I feel that compared to other days, I feel more calm on court. Is true that I was able to have the break earlier, but really I felt more comfortable from the beginning.

Furthermore, he added:
“The most important thing is [the amount of] times I had the control of the time of the point. Not many balls surprised me. I didn’t hit a lot of balls earlier than what I thought or later than what I thought, something that happened in the first couple of days. That’s very good news. Because when that happens it is, of course, a step forward for me and today another one. So I’m playing a little bit better every day.
“Now I have a tough opponent, Rublev, next round, and I need to continue to play well.”
Nadal started as the #9 player in the ATP rankings, but thanks to an impressive season, he is now once again the World #1 player. We will be hoping to see Nadal take on Fereder in the Semis for the first time ever.
