The governing body’s annual ‘The Best’ football awards, which took place in London on Monday night.
Cristiano Ronaldo has beaten Lionel Messi for the second year running at the Best FIFA Football Awards.
The stars of football came together at the Palladium Theatre. A host of other awards were presented before another moment in the spotlight for the Real Madrid hero.
Olivier Giroud awarded for his stunning scorpion kick against Crystal Palace and rewarded as Puskas Award.
The Real Madrid superstar retained the prize after scoring 44 goals in 48 appearances in 2017, including 33 for Real Madrid and 11 for Portugal.
Ronaldo collected his award at a ceremony held at the London Palladium on Monday, with fellow nominees Lionel Messi and Neymar both in the crowd.
“don’t know, I just enjoy the moment, the moment is great. feel happy, I’m 32 and have won best player in the world and I’m so glad. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next year. I just try to focus on the moment.” said Ronaldo.
Lionel Messi was runner-ups while Neymar placed third.
Sarina Wiegman named as women’s coach of the year while Celtic won the fan award.
