Shock recall to Australia ODI team for Cameron White as Glenn Maxwell misses out again

Glenn Maxwell has been sent another stern message from the Australian hierarchy after being snubbed.

For the second time in just over a week as selectors pulled another shock move on Thursday.

cameron White | Australia | Recall Cameron

The mercurial batsman has been desperate to change perceptions of him this summer but Trevor Hohns’ panel is not taking notice. This time overlooking the World Cup winner for veteran Cameron White. He has not played for his country in nearly three years.

A calf injury to explosive batsman Lynn opened an unlikely door for 34-year-old White. He played the last of his 88 ODIs in 2015 and has since been critical of a pro-youth policy. He felt did not reward the performance of senior players.

“Cameron’s in very good form, as his figures demonstrate. He’s playing very well,” selector Trevor Hohns said in a statement on Thursday. He referring to White’s impressive displays for Melbourne Renegades in this year’s Big Bash League.

Senior figures in the Australian camp have privately voiced their concerns about Maxwell long before his recent axings, believing he should be doing more for a player who has been a regular on the international scene since 2012.

Tensions bubbled over last summer when he was fined by the team’s leadership for comments. He made about his then state captain Matthew Wade over his position in the Victoria Shield team.

As recently as the first Test, Maxwell was seen by selectors as the next batsman in line but has since been leapfrogged by Mitchell Marsh despite being the leading run-scorer in the Shield.
