Having lost the toss, Australia were bowling first and to make matters worse; they conceded 305 runs in the first innings. However, the ace spinner, Nathan Lyon, helped the team in the first innings after taking seven wickets. It was not an easy surface to bat on. But Australian middle order had something else in mind. They lost Matt Renshaw in the second over after a brilliant catch from Mushfiqur Rahim. But then, the Australian middle order stepped up and helped the team reach 377 runs, taking a hefty lead.
