Chelsea made the visitors pay in the final touch of the game, after dominating for the majority of the match, as super-sub Michy Batshuayi scored with very few touches of the ball to stun Atletico Madrid in the Wanda Metropolitano.
It was another famous goal for Batshuayi, whose goal against West Brom in May sealed the Premier League title for Chelsea.
Eden Hazard said Chelsea’s late win was “deserved” as they prevailed 2-1 away to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday. Despite falling behind, Chelsea found an equaliser through Alvaro Morata before Michy Batshuayi delivered the stoppage-time winner.
“We are very happy. It was a tough game against one of the biggest teams in Europe. We deserved to win the game,” Hazard told BT Sport after the final whistle.
Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi proved there is life after Diego Costa as Chelsea fought back to win 2-1 at Atletico Madrid.
Former Real Madrid striker Morata he added in Eden Hazard’s cross for his seventh goal in eight games for Chelsea, before Batshuayi struck with the final kick of the game.
It was no less than Antonio Conte’s visitors deserved after a strong showing, with Tiemoue Bakayoko, N’Golo Kante, Morata and Hazard particularly impressive.
“We are playing very well. We have quality in the team and we want to win every game. It was not easy today but we did it.
“Atletico Madrid defend well and both teams are strong at blocking the attackers.”
It was another famous goal for Batshuayi, whose goal against West Brom in May sealed the Premier League title for Chelsea.
Three-time winners Manchester United brushed aside CSKA Moscow 4-1 to maintain their unbeaten record in the Russian capital, with Romelu Lukaku continuing his extraordinary start to life at the club with a brace.
The dramatic finish gave the Blues two wins from two Champions League in group C games.
In stoppage time, Chelsea finally found the winning effort, with Batshuayi following up from a right footed Alonso cross after excellent and patient link up play, to shock the hosts and pick up an important three points in a key away Champions League tie.
