David Villa Has Been Recalled To The Spain National Side!

For the first time in three years, David Villa is on the Spain’s national side. Currently, the 35-year old striker plays for New York City FC in MLS. With this, for the first time since 2014, he has been renamed a part of the squad.

The veteran striker announced his retirement from International football back in the 2014 World Cup. He announced retirement after Spain’s early exit in the group stage in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. However, he joins the squad once again for the Qualifiers.

David Villa will take Diego Costa’s place for the World Cup Qualifiers. Spain will face Italy and Liechtenstein in that tour. 

In respect to this, the Spanish coach said:

“He gives us mobility and is eager.”

Also, David Villa said:

“I am always dreaming about the national team, but it is difficult.

“Three years ago they didn’t call me, so it looks like it’s difficult. But, you know, I always dream with putting on again the jersey of the national team, and this has not changed in my mind.”

David Villa scored 59 goals in 97 appearances, therefore, is the leading goal-scorer for Spain.

Further, Alvaro Morata, Cesar Azpilicueta and Pedro are a part of the squad, whereas  Marcos Alonso misses out.
