After a thriller in the Quarters, Juan Martin Del Potro defeats Roger Federer. With this win, Del Potro has now reached the semi finals where he will meet Rafael Nadal. The fairy tale run for the Argentine continues at the US Open. Thus, he repeats the 2009 match against Roger Federer. He defeated the 5-time champion with a score of 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(8) 6-4.
Juan Martin Del Potro, in an on-court interview, said:
“I played my best match of the tournament.”
Talking about the boisterous crowd support, he said:
“I served well and hit my forehand as hard as I can. We played a great match, and I think I deserved to win in the end. I think it’s my home court. You make me so happy every time I play here. I love to see the crowd chanting for me.

“I can’t believe I will play in the semifinals again after all my injuries, after all my surgeries. Especially to play here in New York, my favorite tournament.”
With this, Rafael Nadal will take on The Argentine in the Semifinals. Nadal leads the head2head between the two with 8-5. However, in the last two meetings, The Argentine has had the edge over The Spanish. Also, in 2009, he defeated Nadal 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 in the Semifinals.
The fans are therefore denied a face-off between Nadal and Federer. Both of them have never played against each other at Flushing Meadows.
