Faf Du Plessis Named South Africa’s ODI Captain!

Faf Du Plessis is now the ODI captain for South Africa, making him the captain in all the three formats of the game. Last month, Ab De Villiers stepped down as the captain for South Africa. As a result of this, Faf Du Plessis is now the captain in all the three formats.

CSA chief executive Haroon Lorgat said in a statement, on September 11, said:

“Congratulations to Faf on his appointment as the natural successor to the ODI leadership. He has established himself as one of the best leaders in world cricket and this was reflected in his appointment as the captain for the World XI currently engaged in the T20 Series against Pakistan.”

Also, Faf Du Plessis is leading the World XI side in Lahore. There were rumors about Faf taking over the captaincy after the Proteas failed to qualify for the semis in Champions Trophy. 

Under Ab De Villiers, South Africa won only 59 matches out of 103, making him their least successful captain. Faf, on the other hand, has led South Africa to nine ODIs while ABD’s injury. He has an impressive captaincy record, winning eight out of the nine games. In South Africa, he has won all games, whereas, against New Zealand, he lost one.
