Mahaveer Raghunathan became the first Indian to win a European racing championship
Mahaveer is representing Italian team Coloni Motorsport, a well-known name in the European circuit. He drives a Lola Gibson Tech 3.4 V8 car in the Formula class which has nine other competitors. Eight of them are using more powerful Dallara Mecachrome 4.0 V8 machines. Other one racers competing in a Dallara Renault 3.5 V6 vehicle.
It clearly shows that Mahaveer has a disadvantage of a lesser-powered machine, but the youngster is not complaining.
After qualifying third on the grid, Mahaveer consolidated his position in R1_hockenheim-46 (1). Mahaveer said the Race 1 was challenging and it taught him a lot about driving in wet.
“It started raining during the formation lap and when the race director declared it a wet race, the competitors entered the pits to change their tyres. However, my team took the risk of sending me in with Slick Tyres. I found it difficult to control the car in the first few laps, but slowly got better,” Mahaveer commented.
In the 18 lap second race, Mahaveer once again finished third to swell his points tally to 40 points for the weekend.
Mahaveer’s aim is to take the top spot at Zandvoort circuit. “Zandvoort is a challenging track, but I am I am confident of a good show especially after my performance in the opening round,” said Mahaveer.
