Meet this Indian cricketer who is deaf in one ear and plays efficient cricket

India’s T20 squad for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka featured three new faces. All-rounders Washington Sundar, Deepak Hooda and fast bowler Basil Thampi.

In 12 first-class matches to date, he has scored 532 runs with a highest of 159.

During a Duleep Trophy match in September, he scored 88 and 42 and took 11 wickets in the match.

The 18-year-old made his T20 debut during the 2017 IPL for Rising Pune Supergiant. He made a big impact with his bowling during the Qualifier against Mumbai Indians. Taking the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard and Ambati Rayudu, finishing with figures of 3 for 16 off four overs and with it the Man of the Match award.

Deepak Hooda is a right-handed batsman who bowls off-spin

Hooda made an impact during the 2014 Under-19 World Cup in the UAE, scoring 235 runs with two fifties and picking up 11 wickets, including a five-wicket haul.

He has represented Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. He has a highest score of 54, with a strike rate of 139 runs for every 100 balls. In 41 IPL matches, he has taken six wickets. He has been used mostly as a middle-order batsman.

Sunrisers were so impressed with his hitting ability that they bought him for Rs 4.2 crores in 2016.

Basil Thampi
Basil Thampi is a right-arm fast bowler and regarded as one of the quicker bowlers in the domestic circuit.

Thampi enjoyed a good debut IPL season for Gujarat Lions in 2017, taking 11 wickets in 12 games with a best of 3 for 29.

Thampi made it to the India A squad that toured South Africa after the IPL.

The 24 year old has 28 first-class wickets and 37 wickets in T20s.

In three Ranji Trophy matches this season, he has taken 8 wickets, playing his part in helping Kerala make the quarter-finals for the first time.
