KL Rahul, who notched up his second Twenty20 International fifty on his comeback, is puzzled as to why there is so much speculation on MS Dhoni’s future in the Indian national cricket team.
KL Rahul was almost struck by an MS Dhoni shot during the first Twenty20 international between India and Sri Lanka at the Barabati stadium in Cuttack on Wednesday.
Dhoni is well known for the power that he possess in his forearms and wrists. The brute force during his blistering 22-ball 39 not out was again in exhibition and it certainly brought back the memories of yesteryears. His knock was studded with four fours and a six.
The 36-year-old was promoted up the order to No. 4 after Shreyas Iyer departed for 24 with 7.2 overs left which meant that the former India skipper had to get going from the word go.
Dhoni joined Rahul in the middle and immediately made his intentions very clear.
The force with which Dhoni hit the shot forced Rahul to take evasive action at the non-striker’s end and he just about managed to get out of the way of the ball which was coming straight at him at a rate of knots. The ball went through his legs to the long on fence for a boundary.
“He almost killed me with that shot,” KL Rahul said after the match.
Dhoni has been under the scanner ever since he relinquished his captaincy from the limited-overs cricket in January. Even though he has made impacts and been a vital cog in the wheel in India’s sensational run in ODIs this year, critics continue to target him in the T20 format.
