Paris 2024 Olympic Games Women’s Singles Seeds: Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina lead field
World No. 1 Iga Swiatek is set to headline a formidable lineup at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as the top seed in the women’s singles competition.
The five-time Grand Slam champion is the leading contender for the gold medal in Paris, particularly with the tennis matches being held at Roland Garros, where she has won the last three titles.
Although Swiatek had a less than stellar performance at Wimbledon, her dominance on clay courts in 2024, where she has only suffered one defeat, makes her a strong favorite. This will be her second Olympic appearance after being eliminated in the second round by Paula Badosa at the Tokyo 2020 Games, which were held in 2021.
World No. 2 Coco Gauff follows Swiatek in the draw. Gauff will make her Olympic debut after having to withdraw from Tokyo due to a positive COVID-19 test. The 20-year-old is a significant medal contender in all three events she will participate in. She has an impressive record at Roland Garros, reaching the final in 2022 and the semifinals this year, both times losing to Swiatek.
Elena Rybakina will be the third seed, benefiting from the absence of World No. 3 Aryna Sabalenka. The Kazakh player narrowly missed a medal in Tokyo, finishing fourth, and will aim to improve on that result.
Jasmine Paolini completes the top four seeds, thanks to a strong summer performance that included finals at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
The United States boasts a strong presence among the top seeds, with three of the top eight being American players. Besides Gauff, the top eight include fifth seed Jessica Pegula and eighth seed Danielle Collins, both of whom are also potential medal winners.
Emma Navarro, ranked fifth among U.S. players and stepping in for Madison Keys, is seeded 11th. Zheng Qinwen and Maria Sakkari also feature in the top eight seeds, with Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova seeded ninth.
While Sabalenka is the only top-10 player absent, several top-20 players are also skipping the event, including Keys, Daria Kasatkina, Ons Jabeur, and Victoria Azarenka. As a result, several players are seeded higher than their rankings, such as Marta Kostyuk at 12th and recent Wimbledon semifinalist Donna Vekic at 14th. Diana Shnaider, fresh from her victory in Budapest, is the 15th seed and will compete as a neutral athlete, while Leylah Fernandez rounds out the seeds.
