Patna Pirates romped to its third straight triumph in the Pro Kabbadi League Season Five. Gujarat FortuneGiants 55-38 in the final at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium here on Saturday night.
The Patna Pirates’ skipper shone with 19 points to help Patna script a comfortable 55-38 win over Gujarat.
The men in green needed the heartache of back-to-back semi-final exits to finally claim the silverware. But when they did so in the third season, they acquired a feeling of invincibility.
With 125 raid points, he was adjudged as the Emerging Player in third season. Before a campaign where he notched up 131 raid points that led him to another winners’ medal and the Most Valuable Player prize.
Monu Goyat began the night with a stellar raid to pick up the first points for Patna.
FortuneGiants bounced back almost immediately and kept pace with the Pirates and trailed 18-21 at the end of the first-half.
Fortunegiants scored three successive points in the next three minutes as they trailed 25-29. Vijay scored with a crucial do-or-die raid in the 30th minute as Patna Pirates led 30-26 and got Narwal back on the mat.
Four minutes later, Pardeep’s 3-pointer saw his side extend their lead to 43-34. With two minutes to go, Patna broke Gujarat’s spirit with an all-out raid and the scoreline read 53-37 in their favour. That was the final nail on Gujarat’s coffin.
Gujarat managed just five tackle points and couldn’t contain Narwal and Goyat. Narwal ended the season as highest raid point scorer with 369 and fittingly lifted the trophy besides taking the ‘Most Valuable Player’ award.
