Vinay Kumar’s Jonty Rhodes-style run-out could not help Karnataka as they lost to Punjab in a thrilling Super Over encounter in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Twenty20 tournament.
When it comes to amazing run-outs, Jonty Rhodes flying through the air to demolish the stumps to run-out Inzamam-ul-Haq in the 1992 World Cup encounter against Pakistan in Brisbane tops the charts. On Sunday, R Vinay Kumar on Sunday produced a similar effort during the Super League match in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.
Vinay Kumar was fielding at mid-off when he got the opportunity of a run-out, and having grabbed the ball; After Gurkeerat Singh had tapped Sreenath Aravind to mid-off, he set off for a single but there was hesitation and Vinay Kumar threw himself towards the wickets and took down at least two stumps to complete the run-out.
The similarities with Inzamam-ul-Haq’s run-out does not end. In the 1992 clash, the batsman hesitated in taking the run and in this case, Gurkeerat too was caught in two minds and was run-out for a fourth-ball duck.
Hi coach @JontyRhodes8 after watching your 1992 World Cup runout video many times, I was waiting for such opportunity. So, today I finally got it. How’s that coach ? pic.twitter.com/HOaUqNqprH

An elated Vinay Kumar even got hold of a video clipping of his brilliant effort and shared it with the former South African cricketer and his ex-coach at Mumbai Indians on Twitter, but not before Karnataka and Punjab played out a thriller in which the latter emerged victorious via one-over eliminator on Sunday.
However, Karnataka went on to lose the clash in the one-over eliminator as Mandeep Singh, who had earlier scored a 29-ball 45 during Punjab’s chase of 159, struck a 4-ball 10 later on to power his side to a crucial win at the Jadavpur University Campus, 2nd Ground in Kolkata.
