West Indies allrounder Andre Russell Banned for one year
West Indies allrounder Andre Russell has been banned for one year from cricket for a whereabouts violation in Kingston. The ban is effective from January 31.
Patrick Foster, Russell’s lawyer, firmly established the development and said he would discuss all options with his client including appealing the ban.
A whereabouts violation is when an athlete fails to make his location known to local anti-doping agencies. Russell had failed to hit his whereabouts on three separate occasions in 2015 – which amounts to a failed drug test under World Anti-Doping Agency guidelines.
The Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission brought charges against Russell in March last year for not filing his whereabouts on January 1, July 1 and July 25 in 2015.
At a deposition in front of a three-member tribunal, Russell defended himself saying he had authorised his agent Will Quinn to take care of the process since he was not properly trained.
Hugh Faulkner, Dr Marjorie Vassell and Dixeth Palmer, a former Jamaica cricketer, who made up the tribunal had originally been meant to pass a verdict last December.
