Dokhlam is an area lying between Sikkim and Bhutan. The plateau is Bhutanese territory but China claims it is as Donglang in Southern Tibet. While India needs to keep on maintaining the vital favorable position it has in the locale, China is edgy to wrest an area for geo-vital reasons.
The incident took place in the Dokola/ Donglong area, where India earlier objected to build the road that China was aiming towards Bhutan. The Chinese claim that they were constructing the road within their own territory but India didn’t agree to it which led to a tussle between the two sides and demolition of the bunker.
The Chinese ambassador to India has asked to pull back troops for letting peace to prevail. China also retaliated by stopping Indian pilgrims on Manas Sarovar Yatra in Tibet via the Nathu La pass in Sikkim. Meanwhile, Bhutan has asked China to not to build the road, saying it is in violation of an agreement between the two countries.
As China is trying to gain control in the area and India tries to preserve its interest. China claims Indian troops to be standing in Chinese territory. Thus we can say Chinese are not raising tensions on the whole border but specifically on the Sikkim-Bhutan stretch.
