The iPhone 8 Plus is officially here, and it turns out the long-rumored handset is what we’d previously thought would be the iPhone 7S Plus.The iPhone 8 Plus has just been announced on stage at the Apple launch, but you’ll have to wait until Friday, September 15 to pre-order the phone.
It’ll then be released around the world on September 22. Exact markets for the iPhone 8 Plus are currently unclear, but it’s certain to come to the UK, US, and Australia.Meanwhile in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar pre-orders also open on September 15, but the iPhone 8 release date is set for September 23 in the UAE and September 29 in the rest.
Apple has confirmed that the iPhone 8 Plus price will start at $799 ( (£799, AU$1,229). That’s for the starting 64GB version, but we don’t yet know how much the larger 256GB variant will be.
Display
The new iPhone 8 Plus is one of the first phones from Apple to come with a glass back. Apple claims it’s the most durable glass ever in a smartphone, but it didn’t reveal what glass protection it uses.Apple has again gone for a 5.5-inch LCD screen with bezels around the side. It features a Full HD resolution, so you’ll get 401 pixels-per-inch.Below the screen is the familiar Touch ID fingerprint within the home button.
Processor
The new phone runs on the A11 Bionic chipset from Apple. It’s a six-core chip that runs 25% faster than the A10 in the iPhone 7 Plus. As usual, Apple hasn’t shared how much RAM will be in the iPhone 8 Plus.Apple has also designed its own GPU for the A11 Bionic, which the company says will allow for 30% faster graphics than in the A10. There’s also Bluetooth 5 tech built-in that allows for a faster connection and longer range than the previous tech.
Camera
he iPhone 8 Plus comes with a dual 12MP rear camera. The wide-angle sensor has an aperture of f/1.8 and the telephoto has an aperture of f/2.8. It works in a very similar way to the iPhone 7 Plus, but there are a few upgrades.Apple has also confirmed optical image stabilization, but it’s uncertain if it’ll be used on both sensors. Apple also claims that you’ll get a more refined bokeh (background blur) effect with the iPhone 8 Plus.
Battery
The iPhone 8 Plus will also support wireless charging, which makes it the first Apple phone to do so. It supports Qi wireless charging, which is the leading open wireless charging standard.
