Instagram is introducing AI Studio, a new feature that lets users create and share AI versions of themselves. This feature, initially launching in the US, will soon be available to Instagram Creators, as announced by parent company Meta on Sunday.
AI Studio allows users to generate AI characters, including digital replicas of themselves, based on various interests and hobbies. There are numerous prompt templates to choose from, or users can start from scratch. Some early examples shared by Instagram include a foodie character offering local dining tips for travelers, a pro photographer providing lens advice, and a dog character delivering positive affirmations.
Creators can utilize these AI versions to answer common questions, respond to DMs, or promote specific content, such as linking to favorite brands and past posts. The professional dashboard in the Instagram app allows creators to specify topics for the AI to avoid or focus on and define who the AI should reply to. Responses from the AI will be clearly marked when received by followers.
How to Use Instagram’s AI Studio
AI Studio is currently accessible to some users in the United States via the desktop version or the Instagram app. To use it, start a new message and click ‘Create an AI chat.’ If this option isn’t available, the feature may not yet be enabled for your account.
Creators can customize the AI character’s name, personality, tone, avatar, and tagline, either starting from a given prompt or from scratch. Meta has provided a step-by-step guide to help users maximize the new AI-powered feature. Even after the AI character goes live, creators can continue to fine-tune it in the backend as it interacts with followers.
It remains to be seen whether this new feature will be better received than Meta’s previous AI offerings, which were criticized for being ineffective.
