The Snapdragon 660 is already a powerful beast of a mid-range SoC but its successor will be even more impressive. Qualcomm’s test platform for the Snapdragon 670 reportedly features 4/6GB LPDDR4X RAM, 64GB eMMC 5.1 flash storage, Quad HD resolution display, 22.6MP rear camera, and a 13MP front-facing camera. Until now, smartphones featuring a Quad HD resolution display have mostly been powered by Snapdragon 800-series chipsets. Once the Snapdragon 670 becomes available, it could end up powering a few upper mid-range smartphones with Quad HD resolution displays and high-resolution dual-cameras next year.
As far as the chipset’s core specs go, rumors suggest the Snapdragon 670 will be a hexa-core SoC with two Kryo 360 high-performance cores paired with four power-efficient cores. The chipset will be using the DynamicIQ from the ARM, a major upgrade over the existing big.LITTLE technology.
